The Steps for Remodeling Your Kitchen
Here are ten steps for remodeling your kitchen. Follow them, and this will be easy.
Step 1: Demo Your Kitchen
Demo means “demolition”. This is a simple process. If you have a friend that will help you, it will be much faster and much easier.
Remove your cabinet doors. Remove your doors and their hinges. Remove wiring and anything else that needs to be replaced/removed. Certain things may be dangerous, so have someone help you with, for example, electrical wiring.
Step 2: Replace Your Old Kitchen Plumbing
This is a tricky process that entails shutting off the valves, getting messy, and removing a variety of pipes and valves. While you can do this, it is often advisable to hire a plumber to do this, because it reduces the potential of you damaging something you are not supposed to.
Step 3: Replace Your Electrical Systems/Install New Kitchen Lighting
Again, as with the last one, it may be advisable to hire an electrician to help you with this. Nonetheless, the basic procedure is just finding the big things in your kitchen that require electricity – overhead lighting, for example – and then removing it and taking out the wiring. But, this can be dangerous, so get help with this.
Step 4: Hang the Drywall
Once you have finished the plumbing and electrical systems, it is time to hang the drywall. Doing this is rather simple, but it takes a bit of time and errors are common. For that reason, it may be wise to hire a drywaller to make sure that everything is perfect.
Step 5: Paint the Walls and Ceiling
Painting really is not that hard, but if you are not experienced, it can take a lot longer. Either way, it is your call as to whether you should hire someone or not.
Here are a few things to remember. Paint before you install your new cabinets. Use tape to mark areas. Spend more time preparing than painting, this will minimize the amount of time you have to spend. Apply two coats.
Step 6: Install the Flooring
There are many types of flooring that are eco-friendly. For the sake of brevity, we will not get into all of them. Just know that it is wise to install them before placing your cabinets, and each material has benefits and downsides.
Step 7: Install the Cabinets
We recommend that you hire a professional cabinet installer, because they will make sure that the cabinets are level and properly installed, which is extremely important.
Finding someone to install them is easy, because the company you purchased them from will usually offer an installation service, which we recommend.
Step 8: Install the Countertops
If you want your countertops to be fabricated, then all you need to do is measure them. That, and you need to wait for the contractors to finish their work. Once that is done, it will be about a week, and then all you need to do is install them
Step 9: Install the Backsplash
Usually, the backsplash is the same as the countertop, so you can install it alongside the countertop. If the material is different, then you must wait.
Again, you can hire a contractor, or do it yourself. If you do not know how to do this, and are unsure, then hire a contractor. It is the safer option.
Step 10: Install the Appliances
This is super easy. If you need to install certain hardware, a contractor can help you. But, for the rest of it, all you need to do is plug in your appliances, and you’re good!
